About Meditation

Meditation takes on a wide variety of forms and techniques. It has been practiced by many cultures for thousands of years.

We believe that many forms of meditation hold potential value for use in clinical settings. The Society for Clinical Mindfulness & Meditation brings together practitioners and researchers to share clinical experiences and empirical studies.

Forms of meditation include:

  • Samadhi “absorption” meditations (to foster a sense of connection)
  • Metta “compassion” meditations (to foster positive feelings toward others and oneself)
  • Analytical meditations (to develop insight into the nature of reality)
  • Contemplation of death (to come to peace with this ever-present reality)
  • Visualization/transformation meditations (to foster desired qualities)
